Expression of Interest: Immersive Storytelling Masterclass
Applications due: 6 February 2026
Masterclass date: 7 March 2026
Open to: writers, artists, and creative practitioners
About the Opportunity
The Immersive Storytelling Masterclass at MAP mima is a specialised program designed for writers, artists, and creative practitioners who want to expand their practice into the realm of immersive media. Centred around the unique possibilities of MAP mima’s 360-degree projection cube, the masterclass equips participants with both the conceptual tools and technical foundations needed to develop compelling, spatially aware artworks for this panoramic environment.
Across a series of guided workshops, participants explore new modes of narrative construction that move beyond linear storytelling. The program introduces techniques for writing and designing experiences that unfold across multiple projection surfaces, encouraging creators to think about rhythm, perspective, and the choreography of attention within an enveloping space.
Practical sessions focus on developing content for the cube’s projection screens, including approaches to structuring imagery, sound, and text so that they interact dynamically with the architecture of the space. Participants learn how to adapt their existing creative processes to suit the sensory and spatial logic of immersive installation.
By the end of the masterclass, attendees are equipped to conceptually frame and practically initiate an immersive artwork suitable for display in MAP mima’s projection cube. The program fosters experimentation, collaboration, and imaginative risk-taking, supporting creatives as they expand their storytelling practice into a multidimensional, audience-surrounding experience.
MAP mima Masterclass
Through the EOI process, applicants can outline their creative background, articulate their interest in immersive storytelling, and share any early ideas they hope to explore within the masterclass. This is not a call for fully formed projects; rather, it’s an invitation for curious and motivated practitioners who are eager to experiment, learn new techniques, and expand their practice into immersive media.
Selected participants will join a cohort of creatives for a series of workshops that introduce the conceptual, technical, and narrative frameworks needed to craft spatial stories for MAP mima’s unique projection environment. The opportunity suits emerging and established practitioners alike—anyone ready to step beyond traditional formats and engage audiences in new, multidimensional ways.
Submitting an EOI is the first step toward developing an original immersive artwork for future presentation at MAP mima, and an exciting chance to contribute to the evolving field of contemporary immersive storytelling.
