Festival Date: 8 March - 16 March 2025
Location: Various locations around Lake Macquarie
Expanding on Lake Macquarie City Council’s International Women’s Day celebrations, the 2025 Lake Mac Women in Sport Festival is a weeklong celebration of the relationship of women and sport, tied together by four themes:
- Empowerment
- Advocacy and Power
- Athletic Excellence
- Community and Support
The festival is designed to:
- Celebrate the athletic excellence of local and national professional, and amateur sportswomen.
- Increase awareness of the health and social benefits of taking up sport and/or exercise.
- Encourage more women and girls remain active throughout their different life stages
- Provide the opportunity to try-out a wide range of sports and engage with local sporting groups, and organisations.
- Educate all members of the community about impact sport can have for women in regard to empowerment, confidence, and its impact on their personal and professional lives.
What’s planned for 2025?
The festival will host the Try a Sport Family Day (8 March) and the Inspirational Women in Sport Breakfast (12 March) at the newly redeveloped Hunter Sports Centre, Glendale.
The Try a Sport Family Day, set up in expo style format, is designed to allow local community members the chance to come and try or get a taste of the sports on offer within the LGA. For sport organisations it's the chance to increase awareness of the sport and take new registrations or enlist new members.
The Inspirational Women in Sport Breakfast will feature a keynote speaker of sporting prominence who will share their personal and professional career journey, which includes breakfast and a meet and greet.
Be part of the Festival!
The festival is also taking expressions of interest from local sporting individuals, organisations, associations and clubs to provide events, activities and experiences for women, young girls or initiatives aimed at improving and supporting inclusive participation in sport.
Your organisation can participate in the festival in two ways:
