About Us

Lake Macquarie is the third most populated regional city in New South Wales where over 204,000 people live in over 95 communities, wrapped around one of Australia largest coastal saltwater lakes. Of the total population, 4.1% of the people identify as Aboriginal.

Lake Macquarie is a growing creative hub with over 2,400 crearive industry professionals, an emerging performance and events sector, museum and heritage and a significant investment into new cultural infrastructure programs over the coming 2 years including public art, an art pavilion and multi-use creative spaces.

Museum of Art and Culture (MAC) is positioned at the northern apex of Lake Macquarie. The Museum has played a key role in supporting cultural practice in the region for more than four decades. A specific feature of this role is acknowledging and engaging with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as the First Peoples, and working with the community to provide a place where Aboriginal voices can be heard and culture presented through the dedicated yapang program.
